Clarifying the role
Clarifying the role of the teacher librarian is essential and can assist in creating awareness of the whole school approach to information literacy. The role of a teacher librarian and an information literate school community are both fluid; ever changing depending on the context of the learning community (Oberg, 2006). The role of a teacher librarian is multidimensional and ultimately determined by the vision, needs and wants of the school community in which he or she is employed. As Herring (2007) states, the school library is first and foremost focused on learning. Otherwise, there would be nothing to separate it from other libraries and the role of a teacher librarian could be replaced by an administration expert or librarian.
