Why be qualified and how does this affect collaboration?

Qualified teacher librarians tend to collaborate more because of the education and training they have been through (Haycock, 1999). This is important to note because as Haycock (2007) argues, for collaboration to be successful, teacher librarians must be highlty skilled. Evidence shows that classroom teachers who collaborate with teacher librarians develop a more positive view of the role of the teacher librarian which leads to continued and closer collaboration (Haycock, 2007). Collaboration leads to improved student outcomes and it critical for the creation of an information literate school community (Skrzeczynski, 1999). The act of collaborating together could also create a sence of unity among staff and a teamwork mentality.
