Hay & Foley

I'm currently enjoying the reading by Hay & Foley (2009) and finding it very relevant. For starters, the section on '...effective practice in building a reading culture and students' literacy capabilities'. My background is in psychology and I became a TL as a coincidence on my path to school counselling. I have a deep love an appreciation for research (how sad!) and I assume it is the opposite for many. I tend to skew my programming towards information literacy development and need to remember that the library is a place for literature enjoyment and appreciation. I was, however, relieved that every one of Boyd's (2006, as cited in Hay and Foley, 2009) examples of effective practice in buidling a reading culture and students' literacy capacities is currently a part of my library practice. I was an achiever without even directly aknowledging what I was doing. I think without directly actioning a plan, my actions revealed my subconscious motivations. Anyway, great paper! I posted many ideas from it onto my staff library wiki.
